thanks for the replies folks, I will go back into the settings and have another look around. The printer I use is the HP Photosmart 8250 and for most of the time the ersults have been really good with great colours and good black and white. I always use genuine HP inks and never compatables. Still can't get my old head around everything being ok one day and losing the edge the next without making any changes. Just lately even the colour has not looked so good.
