Hi Mark,
The EXIF data indicates f/3.5 and a focal length of 50mm. Take a look at this link
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html and possibly save it as a favourite. Play around by entering different figures and in particular take note of the changing depth of field. I think this will go a long way to answering your question with regards to what can and can not be expected to be in focus. There is also a downloadable and printable chart which may be useful to carry around with you.
