I agree with Dave, the F4L IS is a cracking lens and is smaller and lighter than the F2.8. I have the F4L and wish I had got the IS version to be honest.
With regards to the Sigma 2.8 vs the Canon the Canon is the better lens of the two which has been echoed in many reviews I have read.
