Actually, I had the information all the time in my 70-300 AF-S VR manual, just didn't think to look it up.

VR works only with a small number of film cameras: F6, F5, F100, F80 series, F75 series and F65 series.

AF works on those cameras, and on the F4 series, F90X, F90 series and F70 series. With these though, Aperture Priority & Manual exposure modes are not available, presumably because it's a G series lens.

Really, then, the best bet for a film camera that's compatible with modern lenses is one of that first list: F65, F75, F80, F100, F5 or F6. These are the only ones where the OP's Tamron can use its VC feature.
