I think I prefer the uncropped pic best, although it is a bit 'central'. I've tried applying the rule of thirds, but it doesn't work; you either favour the heavy vegetation to the left, which tends to overbalance the subject. Also, the river leads your eye in the opposite direction but, if you go right you end up with masses of blown out sky. You could try dropping a new 'sky' in, but it would be very tricky because the foliage would halo badly.
Awkward one. Great subject, but it almost needs to be re-shot with a ND grad or HDR.
