I have the 15-85 and have to say I have no complaints as a general walk about lens and it is more than up to the job and gets great results. It does suffer from CA and barrel distortion but this has rarely been a major issue for me and can be corrected in PP although I think it is fair to say that most lenses with that zoom range will suffer to different degrees.
Having said that though if you are planning on doing a wedding or indoor work I would be more inclined to look at the 17-55 F2.8 as it is a faster lens, if the wide end isn't so important then I would also consider the 24-70 L which has a bit more reach and the L series build and optics although it doesn't have IS and is quite heavy.
