You need to have a look at the EXIF data for the photo. Although the camera was set to auto, it will tell you what ISO the camera actually selected.

And we still need to know what sort of camera it was!

Edit: I think you said in a previous thread that you had a Canon EOS 50D. If you look at the EXIF data you should be able to find the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. That will help.
