What with the isles being so exposed to the elements there's always going to be risk involved with regards to the weather.
We normally visit Skye in mid-May every year (as the other half loves it there), which isn't a bad time to go as the infamous midgies aren't around in such great numbers but you have more chance of rain etc at that time of year.
We always go on our summer holibags at the start of August which was the case this year for the trip to the Western Isles, and out of 14 days we had 3 which had more than their fair share of rain.
One of the locals on Barra explained it perfectly "if you don't like the weather, wait 30mins and it'll already have changed".
So true this was too!
