Don't worry, I found that out by experience. My son has a D5000 and we bought hime that lens. He is mentally handicapped and hasn't got the grasp of manual focus so his shots with the 50mm are a little hit or miss. He's since had the 35mm f1.8 and this is a cracking lens. Only problem with it is the little sh@t won't let me borrow it.
