You might want to make do with the 1:2 magnification of the Sigma 70-300 rather than get a dedicated Macro lens for the moment.

Oops, sorry, typo, it is the 35mm f1,8 that I meant to type. My son has it and it is really sharp. Thanks for correcting me Chris.
Also, the reason that I chose this over the 50mm f1.8 that Jediboy refers to at £100 is that that lens will not autofocus on the D3100 as it has no internal motor.
