The APS H is a great compromise between the advantages of FF and crop sensors, in a camera body intended for sports and general commercial photography. One of the main benefits is that the aperture can be more open for the same depth of field as a FF, and the reduced field of view means that there's more bang for buck out of the same focal length lenses.
It would be a shame if Canon do decide to do away with it, I'd like to have seen the 7D with a sensor like this, although that would of course rule out the Ef-s lenses and restrict it's appeal.
