Whoa there...! If you've already got 6Gb then you really should be ok unless you're working with huge files, like TIFFs with lots of layers or large panoramas. If there's really such a long delay it may be something other than RAM. It could be worth defragmenting your hard disk to open up bigger areas of empty space - allowing the program to save a big file in one place rather than searching for spaces to put bits of it.
