With regards to photography magazines, I brought them just for the reviews of equipment, not for techniques on how to take a photo etcetc. I remember most of the photos I've taken but not the date. Yes, I do looks at other peoples photos but I don't remember them in the way I remember mine. It is possible that sub-consciously they might have an effect on me and I can't rule that out, but by reducing my exposure to specific trends I reduce the impact it may have.
