One of the best tips I got when photographing insects on flowers was to put the camera on a monopod, that way you have plenty of leeway to move the camera chasing the insects, bees etc but have extra stability.

Manual focus is often more helpful than auto - focus manually then move the camera closer or further away to get it spot on (when you're not using a tripod)
