Well as a person who just bought a 550D on the recomendation of PhotoPlus and several professional photographers I did wonder at the reasoning for having a video capability ( I sincerely doubt I would use it) but as its my first camera other than several dissapointing compacts I went with the adivce I got and laid my money on the table and its very nice..quite the most impressive camera that I have ever bought and I aspire to be worthy of it..
It does seem very capable and at the moment a bit daunting but I will get to grips with it in time..my only gripe was that it was a bit small but a Canon camera/battery grip thingy seems to have given it more substance in the hand and for now the lens supplied will do fine until I know a bit more and opt to add something or upgrade. Accessories are pricey IMO but everything is pricey these days so I guess I will add as I go along..
I would like to add that whilst I cannot comment on the technical issues like some of the above I did find the review in PhotoPlus the deal clincher, along with several other bits and pieces in the" Must Have List"..Yes I am a bit of a lamb to the slaughter but hey what do I know..if an independant magazine devoted to Canon cameras yet are unsponsored by Canon gives something the thumbs up then I find that it helps in my decision making..
I found the article about the Must Haves and the camera reviews/comparisons very helpful given that I know nothing at all so for me at least it was helpful..I am still at a loss to understand the Video aspect but i am sure that some people find it useful however it is a feature I could have done without.
