There is a home made light box in the current edition of Practical Photography which only requires a few sheets of white card, some scissors and a stapler (with staples of course!)
I'm certainly going to have a go at making it.
Also worth checking out is the
Instructables website. It's full of all sorts for those of you who like glueing and sticking and there are quite a few decent photography things on there.
