Under the sale of goods act you can demand a full refund if a camera developes a fault within six months. No if's or buts. You can refuse to accept a repair and demand a replacement or full refund. The information the assistant gave you is incorrect as they have no choice in the matter. If in doubt or need extra support then contact your local CAB office or Trading Standards.
