The Panasonic TZ8 is a great camera, my friend has one and it takes good pictures, also has manual controls ! - It's cheaper than the Sony and got a far better zoom range. Here's a list of reviews to look at

Or there is the TZ10 which is the same with Video but still cheaper than the Sony.

Fuji's F200EXR is very good but not quite as wide angle as the others.
Do you have a budget to work to or any other spec for us to go on ? Do you want manual control ?
I think that will keep you going for a while.
