If you have a template, check the size of it, maybe it's too big for your media that you're out putting to.

Also you've probably checked this but I'm covering all bases here, you don't have it set up in landscape but are printing portrait.

If you have the template on screen and then open the picture you want in a new window, select all, copy, close picture window, then paste into the template, does it come in at the right size or do you need to free transform it ? ( Edit > Free Transform ). This will put a bounding box around the image you have just pasted in, drag a corner holding shift to constrain proportions, then hit return ( or enter ) to size it. Save your newly created card as something else.

You should be good to print then, but before you do I'd go to document set up, check everything is okay, and then print preview which should give you a perfect example of how it will print.

Aside that maybe you could post some images of your problems on here to help us get a better idea of what's going wrong, if you're on a mac use 'apple>shift>3' to screen grab the page or on a pc, use the printscreen button on your keyboard, then make a new psd doc and paste your grabbed screen in there, that way we can see everything you do and maybe help out more if my above idea doesn't sort it for you ?

Good luck.
