In short, yes - quality would be better with a couple (or more) of lenses but your choice depends on lots of other factors as well.

What camera do you have? What lenses do you already have? Is the "portability" of having a single lens important to you (and if so, how important).

As a rule of thumb, the less zooming you ask a lens to do, the better it will be (optically speaking).
