Composer, artist, author, poet, sculptor each has a common aim, to communicate their thoughts, ideas and emotions via the particular medium that they have chosen for that purpose; by the use of words, musical notes, light, materials in their own particular way. Within each of those is an infinite array of variations that can be employed by the artist to reach his/her goal.
Whether they achieve that goal is dependent on those that view, listen or read what they have put together.
Photography is no different. The photographer must be able to ‘write with light’ to evoke a reaction within the viewer. A successful photographer will make the viewer of his/her work feel what the photographer felt when he/she produced the picture.
Of course there are photographers and viewers that are particularly moved by technical excellence rather than artistic excellence, but that’s another can of worms!
