I believe white box goods such as lenses are where an item has been part of a package kit which has been broken up and is now being sold separately - usually brand new and may be excellent value..

The useful fredmiranda site gives the Canon a 9 and the Sigma an 8.4. Having said that I have the Sigma and think it's a great lens!
