Question Canon G12 and digital zoom

I am going to buy a top end compact, either the Nikon P7000 or Canon G12. Each has its own advantage. The Nikon has a X7.1 zoom against the Canon's X5 zoom, but the Canon has the advantage of a flip...

I was very excited when Nikon announced their new Coolpix P7000 and estimated that the launch price would be $499, that is £333 at 1.5 $ to £. Today I see Amazon are advertising at £489. Why?
