With the D80, there's not much you need to access the menus for. You can do most of the settings using the buttons and wheels.

Maybe a small 15" laptop would be better than a netbook. Also, a net book might not have the processing power needed, but you could get that in a small laptop. I wouldn't use the Ipad for the reasons...

The picture thumbnails definitely load faster. But there is still a bit of delay when calling the page.

If you use firefox, you can install the yslow add on and it analyses what's causing slowness...
