I've used 'sofortbild' to shoot tethered on a mac before. I don't know if the D3000 supports it (my old D70s did), but as its a free download, it won't cost you anything to give it a try.

Just to add my 2p. As already said, most macros can focus to infinity. However, mounting any lens on an extension tube will take away its infinity focus capability.
