I have Elements 10, having upgraded from 6. It is very good as it offers as much or as little post production work as you want. For a complete novice it basically does much of the work for you....

You are not the poor relation at all. The P7000 is a great little camera and remember it is the person behind the camera that makes the photograph, not the camera itself.....
