Photography whilst kayaking

I regularly take photos whlist whitewater kayaking using a waterproof compact camera.
See website www.rokercanoeclub.weebly.com

Many shots are ruined by water droplets (not that any of them are particularly great!) on the lens.

Does anybody have any tips on drying off the lens cover whilst out on the water? I have tried a small chamois, but this is no use as it too gets wet. Water repellent sprays (e.g. Rain-ex) don't seem to help either.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers....

Mike

Personally I wouldn't take my camera out on a kayak, canoe or any other precarious float, however if I did I think I'd invest in a waterproof housing, just in case the boat did a roll let alone a few splashes.

Bit of an oversight on my part. Wise move. Cant help you with the water splashes i'm afraid. Sorry.

Since the question is about dealing with water drops getting on the lens, I think the only answer to that is to not get water on it in the first place. Keep it in a plastic bag like what you get from tesco, until you are ready to use it. I always keep a plastic bag in my cam-bag in it starts to rain or snow.

I have sort of the same problem, except usually we are in a sailboat and not as close to the water as you,but we also have a kayak. I still have not found a good way to dry the lens (I hope someone will answer you) but for a point and shoot we have had a couple of waterproof cameras with the slide down lens cover (currently a sony) so you only open uncover the lens right before you take the picture. Not the best answer....
