Recomended lenses
 

Hello all of you,

I have just brought a Canon EOS 600D, it came with the standard 18 55mm kit lens.I still getting used to all that the camera can do.

In the near furture i would like to buy a few more lens.

A 50mm, telephoto, wide angle and a macro lens.

Any recomendations would be helpful.

without knowing what kind of budget you have in mind i have no idea what recommendations to give but i'l have a go anyway :)

50mm
low budget canon 50mm 1.8 - below 100 quid

high budget canon 50mm f1.4 - i little change out of 300 quid and much nicer lens than the budget 1.8 better made , better bokeh and wider aperture

doesn't matter i'm rich budget canon 50mm 1.2 L - dunno i can't afford one :(

or you could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and opt for the canon 50mm ef 2.5 macro costing around the same money as the 50mm f1.4 or the newer 60mm f2.8 macro

telephoto
low budget would be the canon 55 - 250 is i hear good things about this lens for the money

reasonable budget would be the 70 - 200 f4 L ( non IS ) a very sharp lens and the cheapest L glass canon has to offer

a good budget would get you a 70 - 200mm f2.8 L ( non IS ) or the 70 - 2200mm F4 L IS as far as i remember they are priced about the same but if it was my money i would be spending it on the 2.8 version no IS will make up for the loss of light on moving subjects
if you want more reach the canon 100 - 400mm L IS is a good alternative

money no object budget it could only be the canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 IS MK2

wide angle iv'e no clue i don't use one

50 1.8 at the price should be your bag 55-250is great lens for the price and to be honest you are set up. and all for a reasonable price

To be honest NO ONE can advise you with any honesty as you have not stated WHAT you want to photograph.

Its like asking what car to buy for £20k, without saying what you want it for, how many people will use it etc, sports cars with 2 seats are useless for a family.

Sorry, being new I assumed that it didn't matter what I wanted to photograph, more a case of which other lenses to buy part from the kit lens, my camera came with!

I would like to capture some landscape photo's (the peak district being on my doorstep) that's why I need the wide angle lens.

I would also like to take photo's of my wife and son, my wife while she is competing in triathlons, and my son while out playing, so that's why I ask about a telephoto lens

I also would like to take photo's of the models I make and paint, hence why I ask about a macro lens (or would a 50mm with an adapter do the same)

My budget would be at best £1000 for all the lens.

I wouldn't worry too much about not saying what you want to photograph, and I'd worry less about the SHOUTING response. Most people here, like Cosmicma and wave01 will be helpful. That said it can be useful to know what you want to photograph.
For me, I photograph pretty much anything, I don't have any areas of special interest.

I'll be honest I never take much notice of anyone who shouts!

I know I put on an earlier post my budget was £1000, but if I could get what I've asked for for half that! I'd be happier. There's no point spending large amounts if I can get decent pictures from budget lens.

There's no point spending [I]anything[/I] on a lens you won't use. No point buying a 50mm f/1.4 if you want to shoot BIF. No point buying a 600mm f/4 for portraits, or macro. Use what you have, then determine where what you have doesn't cut the mustard. At that point, it's worth asking for advice.

To be realistic, though, if you want a wide zoom + tele zoom + macro, you could do worse than (wex prices)

Sigma 10-20 £369
Tamron 70-300 VC £289
Tamron 90mm £348

That comes to £1006. You may be able to spend £200 less on the telezoom, but you'll probably wish you hadn't. You may be able to get the wide zoom & macro secondhand, but how much you save and how much grief they give you can vary considerably.

Your kit lens or telezoom may be good enough for the model shots. You kit zoom may be wide enough for landscapes, especially if you consider muli-shot panoramas. This is why I recommend fiding out what you [I]can't[/I] do with your current kit before buying more.
