The weekend Competition is coming home
Hi all, hopefully we will be running the competition for the first time on the new site this week. Amy has managed to get all the settings and facilities approved and we are ready to go.
The winner of last weeks comp, which has been hosted on Flickr until we were able to hold it here, is michaelb104 with his super entry. So watch out for the chat thread that will give us our topic and a few simple rules. If the Admin team could make the chat thread a sticky that would help a lot, hope to see lots of entries. Bob:) |
Hi Bob,
Made it a sticky for you, looking forward to seeing the entries to the competition :-) Amy |
Hi Amy, I'm sure all the old faces and I hope some new ones will be here soon, showing their skill and having a great time doing so. Thanks again for the changes you have made to make this possible :)

No problem, glad to help - looking forward to seeing what you all come up with when I get in on Monday, hope to see some good stuff. :-)
Let me know if you need to make any other threads sticky for the competition, or if you've got any other problems. All the best, Amy |
Excellent - does anyone have a copy of the rules that can be posted here (or somewhere) so that any newcomers can be encouraged to join in (he says, posting his first message, I think...)
|
is it the "PR Weekend Comp" then. Maybe the winner will get a title like the " Photo Radar Artistic Tog" that we can abbreviate in the signature :-)
Never felt that comfortable with the old BPITW title - are we keeping it the same? Well done Amy for making it possible - nice to see you always being the one to give an answer / position on the latest hassle. |
Basic Rules we have been using on the Flickr site, please correct\add any I have missed guys, don't be shy. Great to see you here Wattsy :)
1. The image must be taken on the weekend of the competition, I.E. Saturday or Sunday in your time zone. 2. The subject must be set so that no one, in any country, will be excluded, so the subject of "snow" would exclude most countries that are in their summer time, it could be expanded to "Out door fun" for example. 3. Post processing limitations will be set by the person selecting the topic, so that some weeks no post processing will be allowed to make it a more level playing field for those that prefer images straight from the camera etc. 4. images submitted after 12:00 UK time on the Monday may not be included as the poll thread must be set up. 5. voting will end at midnight on Wednesday, so that gives 2 1/2 days voting and the winner then sets the new topic by Friday or as soon as possible to give entrants time to think of ideas and get ready for the weekend shooting. I cant think of any more, so please add to this list or correct me if I'm wrong. Oh! I forgot, the winner chooses a topic for next week and is responsible for creating the chat, entry and poll threads, but we are all here to help anyone that is unsure of how to do it :) Bob |
Bob you forgot
6. Dont vote for Jerry WSL as his pictures are Sh1te!!! Good to have the comp back :) |
Nice one Bob, sorting all this out for us. Glad someone knows what's going on. Perhaps you could give me a crash course into the various foibles of these forums at some point.
As for the rules, I'm all for keeping it simple. If it were me, I'd ditch the rule 3 editing option as it only ever ended up in question after question to pin down exactly what the setter intended. Perhaps just leave it as 'all elements of your image should be taken on Sat/Sun'? The level playing field argument doesn't really hold true given that someone's 'straight from the camera image' could involve a £5k body, pro grade lens and enough lighting gear to cope with a Pink Floyd gig, whereas someone else may only have access to a £100 compact. Just my 2d. Maybe the timing of the poll could be changed a bit? Those of us not fortunate enough to be retired persons of leisure would probably find it more convenient to set up the poll on Monday evening rather than midday. This would still give a full 2 days voting, which surely should be ample. Oh, and finally, to clarify: Rule 4. There is no rule 4. ;-) |
Thanks for that Mark, I've renumbered the list and you won the prize for spotting my deliberate mistake :o
the site is very easy to use and after a few posts most people will find it very easy to use, its just a little different to what we're used to you will grow to like it I'm sure. You could be right regarding the post processing, we should leave it up to the photographer to fully express themselves using any method at their disposal, it will make others experiment and learn even more when ask how a certain result was achieved. The entries in by 12:00 to allow poll setting should stay but voting to start at 08:00 Tuesday sound fair and makes it easier for others as you point out, to set up the poll. |
