photos as christmas presents
thoughtful, personal gift, or self-indulgent arrogance?!
i only ask because i have gifted framed prints of my better shots to three people this year - only people who have expressed an interest in having the picture in the first place, but still... thoughts please... |
I see the gesture as thoughtful, personal and possibly unique too. A lot of effort goes into producing a framed photograph but alas, this is overlooked. If you make a name for yourself, preferably in photography, you may receive more thanks and encouragement from the recipient, otherwise the pictures will be removed to the attic till your next visit when they'll take pride of place again:)

Properly mounting photos is a lot of work. If these people said "I would hang that on my wall" then I say it is ok. Just do not go cheap on the frames, mats, etc. And go bit, larger prints look better and "feel" more expensive even if they are not. I can get 12x18 prints at Costco (very good quality too) for $2.

I think it's a good, thoughful gift. Especially if people have expressed an interest. Well done for getting people interested in your photos.
I did this last year for my sister and husband in law. Her two boys were out playing with my two and I got some good photos of her kids. She loves them, and Im sure your family/friends will love your photos. |
I think it's a great idea for family and friends and if anyone thinks it's a cheap option then it's obvious they haven't done it themselves , you can always find out their likes and dislikes first or even ask them to pick from your portfolio to make sure it's an image they'd be happy to have rather than just giving them a great big grinning self portrait :) .

As long as its a lovely endearing photo that people will really love, then I think its a great present.
But giving an awful, amateurish photos is bad. People feel obliged to display it, but secretly hate it. |
I forgot to mention, generally nude photos of yourself are NOT good gifts. :)

Oh so maybe that is why the people I gave home made calendars this christmas have not commented or have been avoiding me then:eek: |
That probably would explain it. Next year, wear a sock :)
