Do you care for critique ?
 

Just wondered if you care for critique or does it not bother you ?
Is it important to you to take on board other peoples comments about your images so it ceases to be your own or does it help you
or are you your own worst critic to the point that nothing will grace your site or page unless you are truly happy with it.

Can critique be helpful ?

I appreciate constructive criticism. One of the most annoying things I see is on FlickR. Wildly overcooked HDR images or just plain rubbish photos attracting 'Wow, awesome' comments.

its always nice to get feed back but it has to be constructive

i agree critique must be constructive & in such a way that your not suggesting it so strongly that the final image is your full creation & not the photographer/artist as i think then it ceases to be the persons own.

That`s what grates me :confused: the over praised images that get the standard over hyped comments ;)
& many images have no comments yet to me & i can tell what is an image that has the class & the artist/photographer has clearly taken time over all areas of the final shot.

I like it as long as it is nice. My camera club had an open forum night to bring in prints (we are doing the same soon with digital or projected prints shortly - projected onto screen). I brought in several and at one point when the group leader was deciding which photo to discuss next, he picked mine and someone said "Yes, let's get the bad ones out of the way first". That is not constructive or even useful without saying why it is bad. The same person did say after what they did not like and a proper manner. I think he did not know he said it so loud, he said his hearing aids were not working that night.

Blimey that smarts donoreo, a completely arrogant and insensitive thing to say. As far as I've been told (from a regular club judge and competitor) even if a photograph is dire and has few, if any, demeaning features the judge should always highlight a positive point, after all isn't it most club's philosophy to encourage and motivate? I realise the chap who said this remark was probably a regular member but even so.

Constructive criticism is quite important to me, I can always accept or reject the feedback.

As a relative newbie to DSLR I think critique is essential. But again as long as it is constructive and not just opinionated. It can make you feel a little deflated if you yourself think you've done your best, but if you put your picture up for critique then maybe you should be prepared for the input of others that is both positive and negative.

It should be about what would make your picture better, not about where you have went wrong and I think there is a difference in that.

For me if its useful critique to help you improve I really appreciate it. However its often (and I'm guilty of it too) your own personalcomments re if you like the photo or not.

Some useful stuff I have learned is about blown out highlights lack of sharpness, over/underexposure camera shake for example, especially in the early days. These have helped me learn. Other stuff that I do think about but not always take on board is peoples personal feelings re the image as they are what they are, their personal preference. Thought I greatly appreciate any imput I am an individuel with a style and creativity of my ownand don't always take on board everything people say.

Otherwise it wouldn't be your image would it? I wouldn't be anywhere near the standard Im at now (still miles to go though) if it wasn't for helpful critique on here..

I am happy to welcome any critique as I have only picked up photography since Sept. Still got lots to learn so I am all for people offering constructive criticism. Those with a professional attitude can always give constructive criticism on the technical aspects whether they like the image or not as all art forms are subjective.
