Upgrade
Hi all, I have convinced myself that I need to upgrade from a Canon 500d to a 7d, I don't know why though as I am the novice of all novices.
So, my question to you is, am I making a mistake? Also, will my EFS-18-55mm lens and my EF-75-300mm lens fit the 7d should I get one? Thanks in advance. Gratris |
Those lenses will fit.

Thanks donoreo, I appreciate the reply.

Personally I'd save the money for a full frame 5D MKII or MKIII. By the time you've saved up enough you will have cut your teeth on the 500d. Your EF 70-300mm will fit the full frame the EFS18-55mm won't.

What type of photography do you want use the camera for?

Thanks for the replies guy's.
Mudcrabmal - I would like to use it for a wide variety of things, landscape, wildlife, close ups etc. But as a complete novice I'm not sure that it is possible to get one camera to do all, is it possible? I suppose I just want to get the best kit I can afford and then learn to use it properly and hopefully not have to upgrade for a long time, rather than keep upgrading as I gain experience, if that makes sense. Regards Gratris |
Ok the reason I asked was because if you we're doing sports action etc I would go for the 7D or the 5D III not the 5d II as its fps is not that great. TBH I would pay that bit extra and get the 5D III for the type of photography you want to do.

I personally think for the range of subjects you want to shoot the 7D would be a good option as the 1.6x crop factor will work in your favour for wildlife.
The 5D Mk III is an excellent camera but then it is 2.5 times the price of the 7D so for the same money you could get the 7D and a decent lens or two. Like all these things it comes down to money, if you have loads of cash then the 5D is a great option if not then the 7D is more affordable. Personally I was wondering for weeks whether to buy the 7D or 5D mk II and after seeking advice went for the 7D and I am glad I did, the pop up flash for example is handy in certain situations and there is a wider choice of lenses at more affordable prices. Having said that I would love the 5D mk III because of the better auto focus, low light performance, dynamic range and full frame. But then I wouldn't be without my 7D;) |
hi IMHO i would upgrade your lenses first you will see a big difference in quality straight away

Thanks again for the replies guy's, I need all the help I can get!
I have had a look at the 5d MKIII, that is a bit out of my price range at the moment, so the 7d looks more appealing to me based on cost and how better it is than my current 500d. That said, wave01 has threw a spanner in the works so to speak as I am now wondering if I should just upgrade my lenses if so, to what? Regards Gratris |
