CS6 Levels Problem
 

CS6 will allow me to adjust levels on approx 20 photos before freezing up on me. The only way out is to quit CS6 and re-open. This problem was not experienced on CS5. Anyone with the same problem/possible solution?

Your best bet would be to ask this on the Adobe forums. Also include if this is Windows or Mac and the operating system details, and the computer specs.

Sounds like a memory problem. More info needed. :p

The computer has been upgraded as CS5 started giving me 'out of memory' message. The pc now has 8GB ram and operates at 2.7GHz. Have worked extensively today, with no problem....

Photoshop can use a lot of memory both physical and temp as per the swap file. it also uses it own cache system using scratch disks and any of these could be causing the problem. It's also possible that Windows isn't clearing the cache from system memory, which is then partly overwritten by another process or there is a overflow memory problem. All these could result in the problems you reported.

You need to look in Event Viewer and find tthe error message to give you a clue as to what is causing the problem. :p

Also assuming its the 64bit version of windows your using as the 32bit version can only address up to 4GB of memory. CS6 has been optimised to make use of your GPU but you still need a fair bit of memory to run it well

Yes, am using the 64 bit version. OldBoy, methinks you've nailed the problem. I was working on a folder with over 5000 pictures in it, and it suddenly came came up with a 'purge cache' response. I was under the (obviously misguided...) impression that this happened automatically. I managed to find the purge cache function under edit>purge. I went out of PS re-entered, then encountered the same message when attempting to open a folder with no more than 700 pics in it. As I was about to wonder why there was again an overflow, the message disappeared and the program performed flawlessly.

Now an interesting question: when I looked again at how to purge the cache, it only gave me the options of history, video, all. Why no cache? Is it not ppossible to purge cache automatically after exiting every session?

An interesting aside is that I am also running Elements 9, as the plug-in redynamix cannot handle 64bits. The problem with this is that I can only use it as a final edit, as I need to convert bit depth prior to opening in Elements.
