Canon 10-20mm f4-5.6 vs Sigma 10-22mm f4-5.6
I was quite surprised to see in his months magazine that the Sigma 10-20mm out scored the Canon 10-20mm in the super wide angled lens category principally due to better image quality.
Is this everyone else's experience? I suppose I'd just read a lot of positive reviews about the Canon lens which suggested that the Canon had a better image quality but that the Sigma was obviously better on price. |
I have the sigma and I am perfectly happy with it, I have had my sigma for 5 years now and read various reviews and the sigma seemed to come out slightly better when I bought it. I have seen shots taken with the Canon and TBH I couldn't see anything wrong with them.
The canon is a great lens albeit a bit pricier than the Sigma. |
I have used the Sigma for some years and have no complaints but I have never used the Canon so its hard to compare

I had been hanging out for one of these two wide angle lenses for some time, but finally purchased the sigma 10-20 earlier this summer. As already discussed above, I too have nothing but praise for the Sigma lens. Its sharp, and colour really pops.
It's unlikely that anyone would have both lenses and live with them for any length of time, other than for a short test period by those professionally employed to do so. I made my choice by researching such articles written in journals and on the internet, so I hope my opinion isn't construed as bias just because I invested in the Sigma brand. For the money and the quality you'll get out of the Sigma lens, I say don't waste any more time without a wide angle zoom, and go for the Sigma. |
Hi All
Ive just purchased the Sima 10-20 mm f4-5.6, for Canon and was wandering if anyone uses theirs for Night and Traffic trail photos, ive been using the standard Canon 18-55 lens and have had some good results , but hopefully with the wide angle the Sigma offers i can get more in the Frame. ( Obviously with my Trusty Tripod Attached :-0) ) Thanks Tom |
The sigma is spot on, although sometines the photos are bleached. Need to use the Canon 500d Picture Styles to compensate. At the price though, Sigma is a no brainer:)

I have the canon 10-22. It's a little faster than the sigma, though that probably makes little difference for landscapes. Have had no problems and love the results, though it is quite a bit more expensive than the sigma, and of course what you save could go towards your next camera accessory dilema

the new Sigma 10-20 is actually a fixed 3.5. I got one for christmas - very happy!!!
Cost approx $`150 Aust more than the f4.5-5.6 but the reports were excellent and the sigma was still cheaper than the canon. |
