In recent weeks there has been occasions when certin sections of the press have published photos of members off the Royal Family in uncompromising situations. Opinion has been divided.

Do you think that these photos should be published?
Do you think that photographers should show more respect?
Do you think that this has any adverse effect on amateur photographers?

I know that in the past armature photographers have not always been treated with respect as a result of this sort f episode.

It's a total intrusion and doesn't add to the enrichment of our lives in any shape or form. The disclaimer "if people wouldn't buy the newspapers/magazines etc we wouldn't do it" is nonsense. If Joe Public were to do that to their neighbours and were caught they would have the heavies on them not to mention the perve police in the blink of an eye.

This sort of sensationalist 'Journalism' is purely about selling papers and making money, don't be fooled into thinking otherwise. Likewise the photographers get paid a lot of money for snaps like this. Personally I'd be ashamed and embarrassed if I poked a lens over someone's garden wall or fence to take pictures and would expect severe repercussions if I did.

I totally agree with you Jonny.
There is no valid reason for publishing these photos. Only the financial reward which will no doubt be massive. It's a blatant invasion of privacy and I find it terrible that the photographer and the publisher simply don't care. There is no respect at all.
No disrespect to anyone here, but this reinforces my opinion that journalist/paparazzi will sink to any depths to get a story, (but I accept there are plenty of decent ones out there).
And I still don't understand why there are 'celebrity' magazines I'm the first place? It's just not interesting.

Personally the way I look at it is , is it in the public interest and in this case it's a resounding no , to me it's the lowest of the low and doesn't represent true journalism .

The picture should not have been published, they are still people all the same, and should be allowed privacy like anyone else when they are not on official business. And I do think that it will tarnish the reputation of good willed photographers, both amature and pro.

Poor Kate, she must be devastated. It is absolutely not in the public interest so shouldn't be published. Its terrible and does give photographers a bad name!

I have seen them, though I didn't go searching for them. They were posted on another fourm (not photograpy) I'm on. Not really worth seeing too be honest.

The photographs were taken from a public place and just like celebrities the royals rightly or wrongly are fair game. Where was the security? Surely they'd realise the villa was visible from the road. I've seen the photographs and they are pretty dull to be honest, no different to what you see on beaches on the med or what my next door neighbour does every sunny day in the garden! It's ironic the Royals are calling it greed when they only just last year asked for more money themselves! I can't blame the photographer he saw an opportunity and he took it. Will it harm amateur photographers? Not really, I think most people have become more wary about photography in general before this, since the terrorism and photography adverts placed by the police.
Would I have taken the shot? Oh yes! How could a photographer in this day and age turn down a potential million pounds?

No. Nor should any other celebrity's photos like this be published. It reflects poorly on our society that that is a demand for these types of photos to be published.
