Starting Macro

I like all aspects of photography, but am particularly keen on Landscape and Macro. I only have a bridge camera and obviously no special lenses. I have played around with Macro for a few month with varying degrees of result, the main issue been lighting. So a look on the internet for various options drew a blank as I have two kids and the options vary on cost and quality, it was then that I decided to make my own light box, for just a few quid and a small amount of time it was complete and put into action. The image below is from that first shoot, and my first attempt at using manual focus. The speckles you can see on the lower part of the image are from within the surface as it was shot on a granite table mat. so here it is................

The quality of your first image is first class , great focus and lovely vivid colours without being over saturated , the composition works really well with the deep black background and the perfect reflection .

I'm not sure what you did different with your second shot , it looks like either the focus is a bit off or there is a lot of noise reduction going on which has left the image looking soft .

Thanks, great comments. I spotted the issue with the second, and I believe it is a focusing issue. I will have more time next week to try setting up again and shooting some more interesting objects.

Cheers, John

Pretty much what Mark said. But very impressive considering your homemade lighting.
