Purchase of a Nikon D90

I had made my mind up to upgrade from a D60 to a D90 when I discovered it is going / has gone out of production. All the reviews on the D90 are excellent and its replacement market is the D7000. Is there any disadvantage in buying a camera that is going out of production considering that Nikon are continuously bringing new models onto the market. The build of the D90 is excellent.

I don't think the D7000 is a replacement for the D90 as they have both been in the Nikon line up at the same time. The D90 is a very good camera and a bargain at the minute. It depends what you are looking for from a camera. Is there anything you think the D90 can't do that you would like? The D7000 has a larger viewfinder (100 % coverage as opposed to the D90's 96%), a more up to date processor and full HD movie capability. There may be a replacement for the D7000 soon so it's price might come down soon too.

The quick answer to that question is a big fat NO .

Just because the D90 is no longer in production it doesn't make it a bad camera or choice of camera , and you will still have Nikon's guarantee and service .

Thanks Mark. I believe my decision is sound. All reports suggest the D90 is a good buy.

I had looked at the D90 at the duty free at the airport in 2010, but didn't buy it then, I don't think it would have gone down well with the other half ..... so carried on with my D70, until this year when I managed to get the D90 body (NEW) for a very good price, and although it has now been discontinued, you won't be sorry you bought one, it's a cracking camera !
