Digital Camera for taking Football Action

Can anyone one give advice?

I'm looking for a Digital Camera that is capable of taking good quality football action pics.

It needs to have reasonable zoom, be good in low-light and able to take several pics per second.

The new Panasonic Lumiz FZ200 might be a possibility but it's only just been released and I would rather purchase a camera that has been tried and tested.

I would prefer to have just one lens. Video not important.

Just a simple to use good camera that will do the job.

Budget is around £500

Any thoughts?

if were talking about a DSLR and not a bridge camera i think for £500 your going to struggle
on the second hand market i would be tempted to go for a canon 40d ( £250 - £300 ) and the canon 55 - 250mm f4 - 5.6 IS lens
that combo won't really leave you any change though but for the money would be hard to beat

With a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout 24x zoom range this is a camera that will take some beating. It maybe new, but this one judging from the specs will wipe the floor with the competition and will be ideal for football with it's 12 frames per sec.
Think I'd wait a while.

Congratulations on the FZ200, organic! I think you'll enjoy it. I have the FZ150 and it is a great camera.

Cheers,

Bill
