Insects, using close up filter

looking good :D i'm thinking close-up filters are the way to go, at least until i can afford a dedicated macro lens. these ones look great - which number filter did you use?

Thank you I used the +10 i got some bee ones too which i used the +4 on but the postionings wasnt what i hoped for. yes i am think the same as you get use to these first and then get a dedicated macro lense when i can. :)

the +10 seems to get really nice shots - i put the +4 on for a bit, and gave the +2 a go to, but it was the +10 that made me sit up and think "actually, i can get some really nice close ups with these".

I've never used these filters but they seem to work really well .

Very nice sharp detail , well done .

Thank you mark, i was using my kit lens 18-55mm. the filters i got were from ebay at £8.99 and i think alex's were from amazon for the same price. you get +1,+2, +4 and +10 i think +10 works best for these kind of shots but i bet still life macro the lower filters will work great too :)

I got mine yesterday and had a quick play. Nothing to show as was just messing with them. They seem good but I did notice you get a very narrow DOF which can't really be controlled.

Ok so i had another play today and i even stacked the filters giving i try all 4 filtlers together but for some reason it look cloudy/smokey ?? not sure if that because there are a cheap set... have seen other sets at £40 so they might stack better. Any way i did stack +2 an +10 together and got these results critique welcome :)

i think the reason it looked cloudy is perhaps just because there are now 2 more layers of glass in front of the lens. i read when i was researching them that the more you stack, the more you lose in image brightness (every layer reduces the amount of light that gets through). either that or you had some condensation between the filters?

Far better than trying to stack close-up filters is to purchase a Ranox cost approx £42 at Amazon. Obviously a dedicated macro lens is the way forward, but the cost can be a little prohibitive.
