Los Dos Hermanas (The Two Sisters)
http://media.digitalcameraworld.com/forum/gallery/files/1/3/4/3/1/1/sisters.jpgI would appreciate feedback on this image please. Taken on a recent trip to Tenerife, during a fiesta. These two adorable sisters were riding on a donkey, following the procession through the village, and are dressed traditionally for Tenerife.

A really beautifully captured shot the interaction between the older girl and the younger girl is perfect and really shows true emotion , however I find the composition a bit constricting from the sides and perhaps it could stand to loss a bit from the top . The other thing that keeps catching my eye is what looks like a chap in a hat in the bottom left corner , you have a lovely soft neutral background at the top so I'm sure it wouldn't take much to clone that into the bottom corner to balance things up .
It is such a lovely shot I feel as if I'm nit picking but one more thought , the older girl is pin sharp from her nose to the back of her hat but the little girls face seems a bit soft in comparison , it may of needed a narrower aperture to deepen the DOF or the focal point needed to be slightly forward of where it is . Do you have a wider crop or is this the full image ? Mark |
I really like this, great eye contact with nice catchlights too. As a candid it works really well. However,as it's in the critique thread I'll add this: you could afford to crop the image at the top; it's a shame the top of the girl's hat on the left has been cropped out as it would have matched the other's hat; the top of the other girl's hat is overexposed, likewise her blouse; and yes the bloke in the background can be noticed if you look hard enough. To be honest I wouldn't go to the extreme of cloning him out, it's a candid, surely there should be some defects?
I don't mind the younger girl being out of focus as it's the other one who steals the limelight for me. As to the other points I highlighted they're not much really and I think you've done well. |
Thanks so much. This the actual shot size, there was no crop. I had to add a gaussian blur to the man in the hat as he was much sharper. The over exposed areas i agree with. Toned them a little but its still a bit blown. I wanter a full shot of them on the donkey bur there were crowds of people. As you have guessed portraits really aint my thing but working on it. Can i get away with a squarer crop do you think. It was a candid shot and just as i was about to press the shutter release the older girl saw ne, tilted her head and gave me that lovely sparkle in her eyes.
