Can anyone suggest the best branded slot in filters to buy or any recommendations?

Front or back? probably Lee though for both

Lee and Singh Ray are the leaders, though thats not much use to you unless you are prepared to part serious cash. Hi tech are a good performer at far cheaper cost, Dont!!! buy cokin!!

Have to agree that Lee & Singh Ray are a bit 'specialist' in the pricing department. I think Lee have been doing a big marketing drive of late, lots of articles in the UK mags. Singh Ray have the (afaik) unique 'reverse' neutral grad, but otherwise I think the UK based hitech filters is plenty good enough .Link included below.

Hitech filters + Lee holder. Both excellent quality and good value for your money, and available from the link that greenwing posted.

Note that it may be a little hard to source the Lee holder at the moment, though WHE seemed to have stock last week.

I think front filters I'll go for.

Whats wrong with Cokin? I've seen raving reviews for their products. Many people said they buy the Cokin holder and then buy other branded filters.

Nothing wrong with Cokin filter holders... they hold filters well. The main problem is that Cokin ND filters have a colour cast, and also the cast has varied over the years. Since ND, along with polarisers, are about the only filters used these days, this throws a (purple) cloud over the entire range. :)

Cokin and rave reviews hmmmm i smell marketing money. Seriously there is no way Cokin and rave reviews should ever be in the same sentence. The filters have awful colour cast. The Cokin holders are poor, in fact no they are just plain awful, the Z pro is way over priced- save your self in the long run by a lee holder and buy any insert you want but i implore you dont buy a cokin slide.
One more thing to consider when looking at buying holders, its not just that it holds a filter- thats what its meant to do, its not either just a case of how many filters it holds, its a case of will it hold a filter on my lens without causing any vignetting or causing sever light fall off in the corners. If your shooting no more than say 17mm on a crop camera body then your fine this wont be a problem, but if your any where between 10 and 14mm on a crop you will be affected by this, if you shoot FF then anything below 24mm you may find yourself affected by the cokin filter system, especially a 3 stack holder.
