Old Scores

Wanted to give the look of the old masters, the days of Samuel Peeps, Bach.....just an experiment. Comments would be welcome.

My critic isn't with the photo but the score. It looks like you have burn't the edges yourself. At some point you will all learn im a bit of a halloween geek and burning edges is something I have learn't through years of setting of fire alarms.

Anyhow set alight to the bottom corner and hold the paper upright and let the flame rise. Another trick is to mix it up in a bunch of papers and throw into a fire as a reem when you see blackening spreading your there.

Anyhow the photo looks good to me. The glow around the flame could do with not being there though. A quill and spilt ink may have been a nice touch (instead of the wine). Not saying it would look better just an idea that popped in my mind. Funny you post this as is was only yesterday I had an urge to do a photo with candle and candle light, did get round to it though as the laptop was being slow so I set it to maintenance.

After another look I may have been tempted to light the glass slightly with a torch or something.

A nice moody, artistic shot with plenty of atmosphere. Colour balance suits the subject and the candle flame is exposed well enough, although it could be toned down slightly. However, I couldn't really make out the wine glass at first and although the idea is good I don't think it's worked too well, perhaps an old goblet? The highlight on the tabletop from the candle flame could be burned-in to make it less distracting; and it's not level. The candle, and more importantly the flame, are at an angle, the flame doesn't burn vertically if this makes sense?

I an't believe you know about burning paper like that! lol.....Sadly i don't have a quil and ink, and a torch is an excellent idea but I kinda wanted that corner to be dark. Will have another go at this though when I return from sunny Tenerife!!!!!!

Sad I know. You want to see some of the things I build for Halloween. I even learn't how to program silicon chips so I could make even better halloween monsters and props.

Anyway the glass. I don't mean lighten the corner just use a torch with enough beam strength to lighten only the glass a shade or two.

Have a great holiday, if your anything like me you'll come home with 1000's of photo's. Im still editing ones from my Rome trip.
