card reader/new PC problem

Hi Chasps,
I hope you can point me in the right direction here as its driving me batty....here goes !!

PREVIOUS PC: When i placed the card reader and CF card into the USB port i would get a panel come up asking me do i want to open it up in L/Room/ display images on screen etc etc
This was ideal as i would usually select display images and after only a minute or so i could see the complete say 200 images opened on screen.

NEW PC;
When inserting cardreader/CF card it goes straight to Lightroom and i see all images in thumbnail fashion Question : How do i stop it opening in LR in the first instance....i want to have the option of right clicking and selecting "open in L/R"
So to get around the above problem i shut down the existing L/R and then go to MY Computer and select EOS DIGITAL ....this then displays all the images on the CF card which is great however....and this is my biggest hassle....i can only open up each image one by one whereas on my previous PC setup all images would be displayed open on my screen.
It is frustrating opening 200 images individually....oh for my old setup :}

Any tips really appreciated.

To stop lightroom opening when a memory card is inserted, open the preferences dialog (Edit->Preferences or Ctrl-J), select the General tab, and untick the "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" checkbox. OK the dialog & close LR.

I'm not sure how you got all images open on the desktop, but I can't say I like the idea. Try this: With the folder open, type Ctrl+A to select all images, the right click one of them & select Preview. You should get a slideshow of all the images.

I think you ought to get your images off the memory card before you start to mess with them, personally, and for that purpose the Lightroom import is as good a thing as any.

Hi, If the first option posted does not work try this.
Go to control panel, Type in Auto Play in the search box (Top right of screen) when the screen shows Choose what happens when you insert each type of media or device go down to pictures and click take no action. when you next insert your CF card it should ask what you want to do.
Hope it helps
Russ

Thanx so much Chris for your tips :)
Regarding having all images open on the desktop.....the reason being is that i can vet the images from the "big picture" displayed of my recent overseas trip. Being a Landscape freak i can see which images are involved with a panorama stitch [up to 10 images ] or is simply a portrait landscape. Having taken numerous shots of say an old car for mono purposes i can select which one i prefer looking at all images concerned at once. A slideshow will not do the above as well unfortunately. I then earmark the images i want and send to L/R. Prior to doing any of the above all are saved to remote HDD and also disc.
With your kind advice above i am now able to control what i want to do...rather than the other way around.
Saludos!!
