Problem with 18-55mm kit lens

The focusing ring on my Canon 18-55mm EF-2 Mark II (Non IS) kit lens is starting to feel loose.

Can you fix this 'wobble' by doing it yourself?

Also how much would it cost if I sent it to Canon UK if I can't fix it?

To be honest, if there is a fault with the lens, they are that cheap now I wouldn’t send it away, just replace it.
There should be a small amount of movement anyway.

As it happens, and by pure coincidence I have one for sale that I’ve hardly used, and don’t intend to use. I have a 17-40 F4 L series lens in it’s place. You are welcome to purchase that if you want, or go for the IS version which is considered to be a much better lens, but unfortunately at a higher price. Still not that expensive though.

Thank you for your offer, but I think I'll keep this lens.

If it is out of warranty, I would not bother to send it in. Any shop that carries used lenses here have about half a dozen in stock at any time.

The lens is way out of warranty, so I think a replacement would be a good investment.

I'm watching a lens with Image Stabilization on Ebay.

Would the lens be an improvement to my non IS lens?

Well I got outbid and lost the lost :(

I've been looking at other IS lenses on the Ebay. And I have to say that there's a couple where the item description says it has IS where the photos CLEARLY DON'T show it!!! Total fakes.
