Reviewing RAW pictures in the field
I have an Android tablet (Asus Transformer Prime) and have just discovered an application in the Android market that will allow you to review the RAW files in your camera on the Tablet. Search for CR2-Thumbnailer in the market.
If your tablet has a USB slot, you don't even need to take the SD card out of the camera to put it in the tablet. As well as letting you review the RAW files, it will let you back them up on your tablet memory and will even create JPGs out of the RAW in user selectable sizes to store on the tablet or share with other applications on the Tablet includeing e-mail, Dropbox, Flickr, Facebook and others. Since discovering this App I have stopped shooting in RAW+JPG and only shoot in RAW and I have ceased taking my laptop on most shoots. No connection to developer, just a really pleased user who wants to pass on an exciting discovery. Enjoy, Ed |
There are numerous camera apps for Android phones, if you use one of the later Canons this is the App to use. Personally I have no use for the one you mention.

Which Tablet to Use
I think this is a really interesting area for development. Since I read in PhotoPlus how one reader had used an android tablet as an auxiliary viewer, I have been trying to research the best solution to this.
I have discounted the iPad, but I was wondering whether the android or windows os offers the best solution? Something like the Acer Iconia w500 offers the advantage of the windows 7 platform, but I have not seen any reference to it being used "in the field". Does anyone have any experience of using the windows platform in this way, or would I be better sticking to an android, something like the Samsung Galaxy Tab? |
