Firstly i will say that there was no intention in making anyone leave the forum and for that matter you are correct i cannot stop you from producing whatever picture you see fit for the topic.

That said this is an adult forum and i personally find that there has been too much deviation in the Competition topic thread with items being discussed that are totally unrealated to the topic (and i am not the only one that has this opinion).

You knew how i felt about "Jmmy" after i asked if i could stuff him somewhere but still carried on with "Jimmy waves to Pig"

Reinardina then posted
I'm sure 'living' soft toys are not everybody's cup of tea, and will irritate some, me included.

Let's keep this forum a place for adults, and not turn it into a toddler's world full of talking, waving, kissing toys.

There may be a place for them on the 'Off topic' Forum; I can see a nice, successful thread in which toys can play the leading parts. I could probably add some of my 'Goll' shots to add a bit of spice.

However you still kept on with your comments not taking the hint that by this time some people were getting a bit fed up with the thread.
Sounds fun!!!
Pig and Jimmy causing chaos!!!

Then we open the door for "spank the monkey" come on guys this is all in a competition chat thread about Macro photography, this is why i made my comments about CBBC and the age group it caters for.

I am sorry if my comments offended you TweeniE and i hope that you do not quit, as said this was not my intention but can we please keep the banter in the off topic discussions and not in the competition chat threads.

Can't say a lot more without waffling on so hopefully we can move on with what we are all here for, Taking pictures and learning new skills.

PS: noticed that your parting shot was to ban me from your competition corner:eek:

Hi Jeff
I appreciate your comments.
I understand now.
Lots of things are said in the forum
that aren't related to the topic.
I just felt targeted.
I am going too take a break for awhile.

I have unblocked you from comp
corner. It was just a knee jerk
reaction.
No hard feelings.
Jackie

Nice to see you have sorted it, I have been into the main macro thread and removed spank as looking back I was wrong to post it which I apologise for.

Cheers Dave, looks like we are moving forward.:)

Moving forward is good, but can I make a suggestion?....If a person or persons is posting unrelated content or steps over the line, can we just come out and say it directly, rather than debasing that person(s) intellect by using cheap remarks?

After all, if someone posted a comment in the entries thread we say "Please post any chat in the chat thread", to that member.....same as above, something like "Can you please keep posts relevant to the subject and kindly remove unrelated content", would've caused less upset than mere "hinting" at a grievences.

The winner of the weekend theme could also have "Forum Moderator" added to their list of privileges....ie, along with setting the theme, the entries and chat threads, they could also be responsible for monitoring the chat thread to make sure members are posting things relevent to the theme?.....:)

I'm glad thigs have been resolved ;)

Matthew,

Good points, however we do have moderators, i beleive and to that end that would be their job, to moderate the forum threads when they go off track.

Not sure who the moderators of the forum are anyway, presume it will require a super mod to come along and maybe put into place what you have suggested.

Good points though.

highlandscenics 12-04-12 05:19 PM

Might be worth looking into, although knowing the way this site is, finding someone who is in charge could take forever..:D

I suppose in the mean time we could all moderate (myself included), I hold my hands up to being guilty of going off the topic a few times, but I'll reign it in....;)

I'm glad it's now cleared the air.

.....I've yet to look at the new theme, but you have my word, there will be no mention of a certain something..;):)

Can we still have light banter though? its fun........We don't want a megga serious thread, surely?
Can we still have light banter though? its fun........We don't want a megga serious thread, surely?
I personally don't have a problem with light banta as long as it doesn't get in the way of the thread for example I have seen people in the past post a question only to have a load of off topic banta posted directly afterwards.

I guess we just need to think about what were posting and if the banta really is only between two forum members i.e. a conversation then it is more appropriate to send them an instant message.

But I agree I personally don't want it mega serious we want it to be a fun place for example a picture that is a humurous interpretation of the theme is always fun to see and to be honest can demonstrate a bit of thinking outside the box.

With regards to moderators, donereo is the only one I know of that frequents the competition threads. I have emailed various people in the past to offer my services as a moderator but they have never replied. I am happy to do that and it would be useful when I do the poll which I do most weeks to be able to correct or delete it if I make a complete pigs ear of it.

Just another point whilst I am here is that there seems to be some weeks that go by where people don't leave ups and downs, part of the point of this whole comp thing is that people get at least two crits on there images, some people don't feel qualified but that doesn't stop them from saying what they liked or didn't like about a photo constructively.

They never did figure out how to give moderators the moderator title. Lurkalot has it because his user was moved over from the old DCM site to PR to here.

We, the moderators, were never given guidelines on keeping things civil. So we do what we can. In the past this has not been a problem as their has not really been many conflicts.

Samcliffe is the community editor and technically in charge here. Someone who is a supermoderator can assign other moderators. Sam is one.
