17-70mm macro lens

Hi all, just a quick one...

This lens being a macro lens, is there any reason why it can't perform other tasks ie landscapes at shorter focal lengths or portraits at the long end?

Regards,

No reason whatsoever. The Macro moniker is only to show that it can focus closer than might be expected for a standard zoom lens. I'm assuming the Sigma?

Correct-a-mundo, thanks Chris.

Do yo happen to know if this lens is optimised for a full frame as it says nothing about it being a DX format lens on the site that I bought it from but upon checking the Sigma site I suspect it may be?

It's a DC lens, which I always think stands for Digital Crop (but probably doesn't), so it's DX rather than FX.

I have this lens and it is a really good all rounder

******!

I'll have to ring and cancel the order before it's dispatched.

Any suggestions for an FX, fast aperture, standard zoom for Nikon in the same price range?

Not if you want 17mm at the wide end. I don't think any standard FX zoom (i.e. covering 50mm) does that.

Sigma have a 24-70; Nikon 24-85, Tamron 28-75.

Why do you need FX?

[QUOTE=greenwing;76662]Not if you want 17mm at the wide end, no.

I've just seen a 28-70mm Sigma with a constant 2.8 aperture that is the DG format. Comes in a bit cheaper too so I think I'll go for that.

It would have been nice to go a bit wider and to have the OS on it but you can't have everything I suppose.
