Just wondering

With the various posts about the way this forum operates (or doesn't for some). I was just wondering.

In your opinion,

what makes a good Photography community / forum / website?.

What would make you want to join up and join in??

What would keep you coming back?

1. Good community, active members that give feed back and are willing to help novices and those novices give back in return by at least saying thanks.

There is one more thing, if it is a magazine website, I expect more. I expect some interaction with the magazine staff. This is not hard to do, another Future magazine, Linux Format, does this very successfully.

I find this website an excellent example. Okay, you get some people that ask a question and then don't come back to acknowledge the replies, but generally it's a good place. Since the re-launch the number of articles on the home page is immense - they don't all interest me but many do. The staff that run it must be working very hard.

I miss the index to the tutorials that we used to have on PhotoRadar (although they weren't entirely logical).

Having been a member here for some time I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I'm very puzzled about how to upload pictures now!

A reasonable number of images being uploaded (not so many that it floods the site but not so few as to be too thin on the ground) into a structured layout (landscape, wildlife, etc), preferably into a forum thread where a dialogue on the image(s) may be carried out

As above with members having a spread of ability, from beginners to seasoned amateurs to pro 'togs

Discussion/critique of images and photography with space for off-topic chat - with an emphasis on enthusiasm

It would be good if the critique was critical!
Not fussed by endless articles on reinventing the wheel which may be found all over the internet!

For me, we need to promote the forum more in the magazines. There could be more linked articles, for example something in the magazine about the competitions, to make them more competative. I only see one articethe forum in DC mag 'views from the forum'. Thats about the only mention we get.

I like how the featured photos change each time you change screens/log on but in miss photo of the day. A lot of the old members have gone and though new people arriveall thet ime, we laack the forum experience.
