Some lovely colours in the bridge shot, have you tried the same shot a little bit earlier so there is still some blue in the sky?
The light trails in the second shot are quite small in the frame so they don't look like the they are the subject, you could probably chop the frame in half and go for the shot of the Metroradio building |
Both are well done. I agree with Cathus, if the light trails are the subject, they need to be larger. If you do it from a bridge, pick a spot that has interesting markings on the road too, it gives some extra interest.

Great shots for your first go at this type of photography , the colours and reflections in the first image are lovely but as said above the second shot needs a bit more of a focal point which probably could be done with a simple crop .
It always amazes me how much more exciting a night shot looks compared to it day light counterpart . Mark |
Thanks for the constructive feedback - the main issue we had with the light trails was that the traffic was unusually quiet in Newcastle for a Monday evening - I think if we'd had more traffic the trails would looks substantially different! I live locally so I'll go back again and try to get further shots from a different angle. Thank you :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. Im from Sunderland so we are neighbours. Nice attempt at night photography. I personally think it's hard to capture the atmosphere you want in the dark.

Hi, great shots there... I love the millenium bridge shot.
I'm new to photography myself and I'm looking to do some night time photography. Recently I have been trying some similar shots of the millenium and the tyne bridge and haven't had the best results. I.m using a Nikon D3100 with Nikon 55-300mm lens... I've generally been snapping at about 70-100mm and I've experimented with ISO400/800, F5.6/F8 and F16. However, my shots never seem right. I normally use aperture priority mode and it automatically selects the shutter speed, which bounces around from 8secs - 20secs. Just wondering if I should be changing my metering settings maybe, the spot/cumlative matrix setting? Could anyone help with any tips for nightime photography? Thanks for any help. Rick |
