upgrade to 60d?
Good morning everyone, I have an 1100d and enjoy using it, as I have recently split from my wife I have decided to treat myself either a new camera or a lens. I was just wondering is it worth while buying the 60d from 1100d, is the image quality much better, obviously shooting rates higher, more mp's etc how is the iso performance etc. so many questions haha, Any advice would be greatly apprecciated Thanks

Sorry to hear you split from your wife. Hope things get better soon. In the meantime, if it were me (and, though my wife and I stayed together, it was a couple of years ago) I would go with a new lens. A new lens opens up a whole new world to you of places you couldn't go before, or ranges you couldn't reach without changing lenses. I am still playing around with my T1i (or 500D to those of you across the pond), but I have a nice set of lenses allowing me to reach from 10mm to 500mm, including some primes and some macro lenses. I am hoping to jump to a 7D mark II if they ever make one, or to the new 70D that Canon Rumors has hinted will come out a bit later this year.
Good luck, Frank |
hi what do you shoot and do you only have the kit lens
|
I recently upgraded to a 60D from a 1000D and I love it. However, you haven't said what kit you already have. I already had a variety of lenses so, depending on what you already have, go for lenses 1st. The camera upgrade can come later.

Thanks for your responses, Im travelling around England at the moment from nz, so travel photography and I really enjoy landscapes, I have a sigma 18-250 which i can take with me when travelling light, compromise in image quaility but easier for me at the moment, and I just yesterday brought sigma 10-20 which im going to enjoy learning to use. Thanks for your help

The 60D is heavier than my 1000D, but not sure how heavy your 1100D is
|
the 60d will be heavier but it is a good upgrade, but if the budget allows i would look at a 7d. all that said the 600d would give you a lot too and it would be lighter.
I think its time for a visit to a shop and try them as this is the only way for you to tell |
Hi there,
What a nice problem to have! The 60D is a very well specced 'enthusiast' camera, and so is the 'enthusiast/sem-pro' 7D; they're both 18-megapixel machines, the 7D gets that great 8fps burst mode and other bonuses, but ultimately it really comes down to your budget and handling preference. Have you handled either of them? Personally I prefer the bigger 60D/7D cameras, the feel better in the hand, and are better balanced with bigger lenses. If you go to Canon's site here you can select and compare specs; http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/index.aspx I have to agree with wave01, that you may well be better off with the 600D as you're travelling around, as the 600D is simiar size to the 1100D so much lighter than the 60D, however the 600D has much better specs over the 1100D; with 18Mp sensor, faster burst rate and bigger and vari-angle screen for shooting in tricky spots, plus more in-camera filters for fun effects. Here's the comparison of the 1100D and 600D for spec checks: http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/compare_products/loadcomparator.asp?prod=5161B001AA;5170B001AA;&lang=UK&country=CE&dir=/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/ Good luck. I deliberated for months over the 60D and 7D and it came down to the budget in the end, I was determined to stick to it no matter what. No regrets as the 60D does all I need it to do. I photographed MotoGP last year and the 5.3fps was sufficient; the lens was much more important. The articulated screen is very useful and I took my recent competition entry using it ('Water Waste').
All in all a great camera, ok not as rugged as the 7D and perhaps not as much kudos. I've taken it up and down fells, on beaches etc etc and it's never let me down even when it got quite damp in Cumbria. Have fun no matter which model you go for. Oh, my kit lens is the Sigma 17-70 OS HSM lens. |
I did
I recently upgraded from the 550D/T2i to the 60D and I am very pleased. The camera offers many different items available in the 550D & 7D. Worth the look for you.
